Here in Slovenia, Čokolino is a trendy breakfast. Čokolino Dark is made with whole oat flour and sweetened with dates, chocolate, and cacao. When stirred with milk, it becomes a porridge. It’s a family favorite over here, too. We make it for breakfast or an indulgent late snack. Our kids especially love making this overnight Čokolino, as they love stirring the ingredients together, and then in the morning, they love to eat what they made.

Čokolino - we used a brand new Čokolino Dark in this recipe for those unfamiliar with Čokolino. Čokolino is made with whole oat flour, and when stirred with milk, it becomes like porridge.

Chia seeds - not only are they great for digestion, but they have a fantastic texture as well.

Dates - are naturally sweet and delicious.

Maple syrup - adds an excellent sweet flavor. Optionally substitute with honey.

Almond milk - feel free to use oat, rice, or cow's milk.

Yogurt - brings freshness and lightness.

Berries - to serve, use strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, or other fresh berries. Add the berries right before serving.

Storing

Freel free to keep the Overnight Čokolino in the fridge for up to two days. Serve cold. Optionally cover the cups with clingfilm to prevent the unwanted smell coming from the fridge into the food. Top with yogurt and berries right before serving.

METHOD

  • stir to combine

    Combine čokolino, chia seeds, dates, maple syrup, creamy peanut butter, and almond milk in a blender. Mix into a smooth mixture. Divide between four cups and place in the fridge for at least 2 hours or overnight.

    Before serving, add a generous scoop of Greek yogurt on top of čokolino. Sprinkle with a handful of fresh berries and serve.
